It is very likely that you must’ve watched a show that was based on a video game but you wouldn’t probably have been aware of it. That is because many people prefer watching shows over playing video games, which is why they miss out on brilliant storylines. However, those storylines are then incorporated into TV shows through adaptations.
There have even been movies that have been adapted from video games, such as Mortal Kombat and Tomb Raider. You may also find similar shows on your Cable TV service, such as Spectrum Cable which offers you quite a library of shows to watch. If you’re lucky enough, you might even catch your favorite shows and movies based on video games.
Coming back to shows that either have been based on games or will be soon, here are some shows you should check out that take their inspiration from video games:
⦁ The Witcher
You probably would be aware of The Witcher which stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia and the show has been popular all over the world ever since it first came out. The TV show came out back in 2018 and at that time, people were conflicted about whether or not the show was going to be good. Luckily enough, the show was really good, just as good as the game was. The game series was created by CD Projekt Red which was the same studio behind the infamous Cyberpunk.
The show was so good that it was renewed for a second season and the second one was just as good as the first one. The cinematics and action of the show are so good that it feels like you are a part of Geralt’s world as well. You can very easily say that The Witcher is a very immersive and captivating TV show and you should check it out.
⦁ Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Speaking of Cyberpunk, did you know that there was a show created about Cyberpunk as well? However, this show has been pretty underrated, though it came out last year in 2022. The show could be seen as more of an anime than a show and the show has a brilliant visual aesthetic and it is the kind that would have your eyes glued to your screen because of how beautiful everything is. Each episode lasts for around 20 minutes, which is fairly easy to manage especially if you are planning on binging the show.
The show is so good that you would want to watch the show all over again due to how brilliant it is. Now that we’ve mentioned so much about it, you should most definitely check this show out as well. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be something like the game was when it first came out and Sony had to pull the game back. So this show redeems the game and makes up for everything that went bad with it.
⦁ Arcane
Another show that had set the benchmark for shows based on video games is Arcane which is based on the story of League of Legends. The show is set in the two cities of Piltover and Zaun in the world of Runeterra. Arcane is created by a French animation studio that worked closely in collaboration with Riot Games to make sure the show is as brilliant as it possibly could be. The show is so good that it is a treat for both, people who have played the game before and people who have never played it before.
The animation and CGI of the show is so captivating that it would have you hooked to your device until you finish the show. It even has an amazing cast that includes stars such as Hailee Steinfeld, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ella Purnell, and Jason Spisak. Arcane was so good that it was nominated for a total of nine Annie Awards.
Highly Anticipated Shows in Development
⦁ God of War
All of us have seen Kratos go from a ruthless God-butcher to a calm man trying to mentor his son for his future endeavors. God of War got an entire reboot on the PlayStation 4 and the game was loved by people all around the world. It was succeeded by a sequel very recently titled God of War: Ragnarok. Both of the games have been so good that God of War is being turned into a show, and honestly, we can’t wait for it!
⦁ Horizon Zero Dawn
The game had a storyline like no other. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic United States where machines have taken over and destroyed everything. People now live like pre-historic tribes and must fight against machines to survive. The lead character of the game, Aloy, must do everything in her power to stop the machines from taking over. Again, this game was so good that they’re considering making a show out of it too. We have high hopes for the show because the story of the game was captivating enough to make an amazing show out of it.
Wrapping Up
Video games are always bound to have good TV shows made out of them because they always have an amazing story. A properly executed show can maintain a good fan following, for instance, The Last of Us!
